On Monday, July 21, 2025, the Boston Red Sox lost to the Philadelphia Phillies 3-2 in the 10th inning on a “walk off catcher interference call” when Phillies batter Edmundo Sosa said he felt something touch his bat on a check swing with the bases loaded. Upon review, it was determined that Sox catcher Carlos Narvaez’s glove did in fact make contact with Sosa’s bat. The good news for Narvaez is this kind of thing happens to the best of them, literally. The last time this happened was In 1971, when the Los Angeles Dodgers beat the Cincinnati Reds 5-4 after the reigning NL MVP and future Hall-of-Fame catcher Johnny Bench was called for interference. Bench won 10 gold gloves from 1968 to 1977 and was a first ballot hall of famer in 1989.
