In a July 2003 game that still makes stat lines look unreal, Boston’s Bill Mueller became the first MLB switch-hitter to hit grand slams from both sides of the plate in the same game. Only twelve players have ever hit two grand slams in a game—but Mueller added an extra flourish with a third home run for good measure. Facing the Texas Rangers, he drove in 9 of Boston’s 14 runs in a 14-7 win. The performance made baseball history, but it also helped the Sox extend their hot streak to 8 wins in the last 10 games, keeping them tight on the heels of the Yankees.
