When the White Sox played the Red Sox on August 12, 1907, Walsh found himself fielding more balls than most pitchers see in a week.

The White Sox fell 5-3 to the Red Sox in a duel between Walsh and George Winter. While Winter limited Chicago to just five hits, Walsh made history in a far different way. The ace tied the American League record for pitchers with 11 assists — an extraordinary number for someone who usually lets his fielders handle the work. It was one of those rare days when nearly everything hit back to the mound found its way through Walsh’s glove.
