In his very first major league appearance on July 19, 1960, 21-year-old Juan Marichal electrified fans by taking a perfect game through six and a third and finishing with a dazzling one-hitter, striking out 12 Phillies. Just up from Tacoma, the future Hall of Famer instantly revived a slumping Giants squad—and the headlines showed it: “Miracle Man Marichal Revives Giants Hope.” He lost the no-hitter with two outs in the eighth, but the legend had begun. Marichal would go on to win 243 games and carve out one of the most elegant careers in baseball history.
