On June 3, 1978, with the score tied 1–1 in the bottom of the ninth, the Phillies got a runner on third with nobody out, leading Dodgers manager Tommy Lasorda to intentionally walk the next two batters to load the bases. Davey Johnson was sent up to pinch hit, and he lofted the second pitch into the bullpen for a grand slam for a walk-off Phillies win, becoming the first player in major league history to hit two pinch-hit grand slams in the same season.
