Three straight bunts and a bases-loaded walk sealed a quirky but crucial win for the Pirates.

On August 16, 1960, the Pittsburgh Pirates swept a doubleheader against the Phillies to stretch their National League lead to 7½ games. After cruising to an 11-2 win in the opener, the Pirates leaned on some creative offense in the nightcap. With the score tied at 3 in the 8th inning, Dick Groat, Bob Skinner, and Rocky Nelson each dropped perfect bunt singles. A rattled Robin Roberts then walked Roberto Clemente on four pitches, forcing in the go-ahead run. The 4-3 victory kept Pittsburgh’s momentum rolling on their march to a World Series title.
