On July 27, 1968, with the Tigers clinging to a 2-0 lead and the Orioles threatening with the bases loaded and no outs, 24-year-old rookie Daryl Patterson took the mound and promptly silenced Baltimore on just 13 pitches. The clutch performance set the Tigers up for an eventual 4-1 win that expanded their lead over the Orioles in the division. Not bad for a kid in his first big-league summer.
