On August 8, 1921, Luke Stuart etched his name in baseball history with one unforgettable swing. When the St. Louis Browns rookie stepped in to pinch hit against the great Walter Johnson, he couldn’t have imagined what was about to happen. In his very first Major League plate appearance, Stuart belted an inside-the-park homer, making him the first American League player to homer in his debut at-bat. It turned out to be the only hit of his brief three-game career. Stuart remains one of just three players in MLB history to launch an inside-the-park homer in their first trip to the plate. A fleeting career, but an immortal moment.
