Cleveland and New York clubs share an odd defensive rarity. It’s one of the strangest quirks in baseball scorekeeping — playing an entire game without recording a single assist. The Cleveland Browns were the first to do it on August 8, 1943, in a 5-2 loss to St. Louis, and then did it again just two years later, this time in a win over the Yankees. Fast forward 44 years, and the Mets joined the club in a 5-1 victory over the Phillies. Finally, on September 11, 1995, the Yankees pulled it off, giving this odd defensive feat a curious twist: only teams from Cleveland or New York have ever done it.
