In Game 2 of the 2017 ALCS, Todd Frazier’s deep drive got stuck in a fence — and maybe changed the course of the game.
Baseball has a way of throwing curveballs even when none are pitched. The Yankees trailed the Astros 1-0 when Todd Frazier sent a drive to deep left-center — only for the ball to wedge itself in the chain-link fence protecting the Yankees’ bullpen. The umpires ruled it a ground-rule double, bringing in the tying run but stopping Frazier at second. The Astros later walked it off in the ninth on Jose Altuve’s dash from first to home. For Frazier and Yankees fans, it was hard not to wonder — what if that ball hadn’t stuck?
