On July 20, 1968, 37-year-old Willie Mays showed he still had magic in his legs. With 19 big-league seasons behind him, he raced from first to home on a Jim Hart single to score the Giants’ only run in a 1-0 win over Houston. The throw beat him to the plate, but Mays somehow slid around the catcher’s tag (see the game recap with photo of the play at the plate). Just another chapter in the legend of the Say Hey Kid.
