One inning, two unforgettable blasts, and a game that suddenly flipped on its head.
On June 27, 1977, the Reds led the Giants 8–3 when Willie McCovey stepped into the sixth inning spotlight. He belted a solo homer in his first trip to the plate, then returned later and launched a grand slam into the second deck, powering a 10-run inning. The blasts gave McCovey the NL career grand slam record and made him the first player ever to homer twice in one inning more than once. By the time it ended, the stunned Reds watched the Giants ride that inning to a remarkable 14–9 comeback win.
